Word Retrieval 1.7

Word Retrieval is a therapeutic tool developed by a certified speech and language therapist, aimed at addressing word-finding difficulties in both children and adults.

The program is grounded in research focusing on the remediation of lexical retrieval challenges. It offers structured activities—including confrontational naming, associative tasks, and both divergent and convergent naming exercises—to enhance users' ability to access familiar words and expand their vocabulary.

It has been designed to support individuals with diverse conditions such as:

• Aphasia
• Specific language disorder
• Learning disorders
• Cognitive deficits impacting word retrieval
• Autism spectrum disorder
• Central Auditory Processing Disorder

Word Retrieval features seven distinct activity types, each comprising 80 trials divided into four sets:

1. Name this Picture
2. Sentence Completion (e.g., I eat soup with a…)
3. Opposite Meanings (e.g., What’s the opposite of “open”?)
4. Convergent Naming (e.g., Identify an animal with fur and four legs used to catch mice.)
5. Divergent Naming (e.g., Name five musical instruments.)
6. Associations (e.g., What items are related to a house?)
7. Definitions (e.g., Define the word “lake.”)

The platform offers two primary modes of engagement: Flashcards and the Word Challenge Game. In the Flashcard mode, users are presented with visual or verbal prompts, including sentence completion tasks, to elicit responses.

The Word Challenge Game introduces a gamified approach, making practice more engaging through a competition-style format.

Navigation within Word Retrieval is straightforward and includes various features for customized therapy management, such as:

• Entering data for multiple students or patients
• Adjusting session settings
• Saving preferred goals for future use
• Selecting different trial counts per user
• Toggling written descriptions on or off
• Using the audio recording function for responses
• Tracking accuracy through correct and incorrect response records
• Viewing detailed reports in tabular format
• E-mailing session results directly from the platform
